Social care placement: why every nursing student should try it

A new social care placement strategy aims to attract more nursing students to roles in adult social care, where more than 30,000 nurses deliver complex care that supports the NHS. Funded by the Department of Health and Social Care, the strategy encourages stronger ties between universities and social care providers, increased placement access and training for supervisors. Despite workforce challenges, social care offers diverse, rewarding nursing roles. Nursing and healthcare professionals outline the value of social care placements for nursing students in helping them develop skills in clinical care, leadership and autonomy, and exposing them to potentially fulfilling career options.
