Bank shift pay cuts: what does this say about nurses’ value?

Many nurses work bank shifts as a way to boost their income and also to provide staffing cover and support in their understaffed wards and workplaces. But some NHS hospital trusts have recently reduced their rates of pay for bank shifts, meaning some registered nurses will be paid at rates well below their experience level when taking on bank shifts. Some nurses have responded by threatening to quit and refusing to work for less than they deserve – how will trusts cover shifts when those bank nurses refuse to play ball?
