Back, arm and neck pain: what to do if you have it, or prevent it if you haven’t

Musculoskeletal or MSK problems, including back pain, neck, shoulder or arm strain, and diseases of the joints are common among nurses, exacerbated by not using proper lifting and handling techniques because of time pressures, faulty equipment and staff shortages. Leadership and team culture play a role in ensuring staff feel safe to raise concerns, and employers have a legal duty to assess and mitigate manual handling risks.
